Lisa Nandy’s reappointment to the DCMS welcomed by Betting and Gaming Council

Lisa Nandy has been reappointed as Secretary of State at the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) in a move that has been welcomed by the UK’s Betting and Gaming Council (BGC). The 46-year-old was first appointed to the role in 2024, and she will remain in charge following new prime minister Andy Burnham’s first cabinet reshuffle since he replaced Sir Keir Starmer on Monday.In a statement following the reappointment, the BGC said they were looking forward to “continuing the constructive relationship” with the department, which has “previously recognised the regulated betting, gaming and casino sector’s significant contribution to jobs, investment and economic growth in the UK.”

Grainne Hurst, chief executive of the BGC, added: “I would like to congratulate Lisa Nandy MP on her reappointment as Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport, and John Healey MP on his appointment as Chancellor of the Exchequer.“Lisa Nandy’s reappointment provides an opportunity to build on the positive relationship we have developed since she first took office. She has consistently recognised the important contribution our regulated betting, casino and online sector makes to Britain’s economy, supporting 109,000 jobs, contributing £6.

8bn in gross value added, generating £4bn in tax each year and investing millions more in sport, including racing.“We were also pleased to see John Healey support this year’s Grand National charity bet initiative, which has helped raise significant sums for charities while celebrating one of Britain’s great sporting occasions.”The MP for Wigan has been joined in the department by Michelle Dite, Charlotte Samuelson, John Steele and Dame Sarah Storey, while Rachel Baillache has been reappointed to the UK Sport Board for the next four years.

The four new appointments will all run from 1 August 2026 to 31 July 2030.
