Forty years of earning its trust. The next chapter begins here.

MANILA, Philippines — Forty years is a remarkable span in the life of a newspaper. It is long enough to witness governments rise and fall; economies flourish and falter; disasters test a nation’s resilience; athletes bring glory on the world stage; technologies reshape how people live, and generations of Filipinos grow up under entirely different worlds of communication. It is long enough to remember mornings when newspapers arrived on doorsteps before sunrise, and to embrace an age when news reaches millions in an instant through a screen.

Through every transformation – political, social, cultural and technological – one responsibility has remained unchanged: the pursuit of truth. As The Philippine STAR marks its 40th anniversary, it does so not just by celebrating the years that have passed, but by reaffirming the purpose that has guided every headline, every investigation, every photograph, and every editorial decision since its founding – it is WHERE TRUTH SHINES. This is more than the theme of this anniversary.

It is a declaration of who we have been, who we strive to be, and who we must continue becoming. It recognizes that truth is never self-evident. It must be pursued with discipline, defended with integrity, and shared with responsibility.

In an age of limitless information – and equally limitless misinformation – this responsibility has never been more urgent. This commemorative issue is, therefore, not simply a celebration of an institution. It is a reflection of journalism itself: the people who make it possible, the communities it serves, the partners who sustain it, and the future it continues to shape.
