Two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man, were declared dead at the scene, while the baby girl was taken to hospital and died a short time later

Tributes are being paid following a "heartbreaking" car crash in Derby that claimed the lives of four Gambian nationals, including a seven-month-old girl. The tragedy unfolded on Saturday around 11pm when a red Hyundai, carrying five people, veered off the A38 near the Toyota Island and collided with trees, Derbyshire Constabulary confirmed. Two women, aged 18 and 30, and a 36-year-old man, were pronounced dead at the scene.
The infant was rushed to hospital but sadly died a short time later. The driver, a 33-year-old man who is in hospital being treated for serious injuries, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has now been bailed, the force said. The Gambia Welfare Society in Leeds named one of the people who died as Abu Camara, adding that his wife, their seven-month-old daughter, and a woman believed to be another family member died in the crash.
The society described Mr Camara as a “dedicated servant of his community” who mentored young children through football. The statement added: “He will be remembered for his kindness, humility, and selfless service.”The society said it is “grateful” that the driver survived the collision, and its members pray for his “full and speedy recovery”.
“May Allah forgive them all, have mercy on them, grant them the highest place in Jannatul Firdaus, and give their families strength and patience during this heartbreaking time,” the statement added. On Monday, the Gambia High Commission in the UK described the deaths of the four people, who it said were travelling together from Birmingham to Leeds, as “tragic”.The statement added: “Her Excellency Dr Fatou Bensouda, High Commissioner of the Republic of The Gambia to the United Kingdom, together with the staff of the High Commission, extends its deepest condolences and heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families during this difficult time.
“The Deputy Head of Mission, Mr Suntou Touray, has spoken with the President of the Gambia Welfare Society in Leeds, Mr Yanks Sawo, to convey the High Commission’s condolences and to coordinate with the family’s liaison representative.“The High Commission remains in contact with the relevant authorities and the affected families and will provide further updates as more information becomes available.“May the souls of the departed rest in perfect peace.”
